Dealing properly together with your child’s temper

Understanding tips on how to overcome a child’s anger has become the many lessons that we as parents need to learn. On many occasions I have been faced with that anger, which when not correctly dealt with, simply leads to frustration on both sides. Despite the fact that, if you are lucky, your child may have an easy-going temperament, even the majority of well-behaved kids are capable of turning aggressive. In this post, you will tips for coping with that rage. The force of the child’s anger may seem overwhelming at times. How we deal with it as adults is the key.

Today, whilst out walking our dogs, I witnessed a 5 or 6 year old boy trying to overturn his younger sibling’s pushchair. His mother whilst trying to control that temper, simply acted like a child herself having a temper tantrum. The result? The young child began kicking and punching his mother, in the street. She obviously didn’t know how to cope with that child’s anger. Whilst my youngsters never reached that level of anger, I still remember being taken aback the first time my youngest threw himself to the ground and had their first major tantrum.

Although outbursts are a regular part of a child’s development and your youngster’s natural progression toward self-reliance, some youngsters have genuine anger problems which must be tackled, usually through having good anger management. Parents who fail to tackle the problem can end up like that poor woman, being beaten upon by her five year old. What sort of example will that behavior be setting for the younger sibling?

Practice Patience

In order to recognise children’s frustration, you must have some information about child development (you will find more information on this site on this subject). Toddlers as well as preschool-age children are often overwhelmed by their feelings and often don’t have the skills to control their own tempers. That is why you have to show persistence and teach your kids the correct behavior and also the way to acquire the particular self-control to hold their anger in check. Naturally, just like most things, this can be an acquired art. There are plenty of resources available that will help provide this guidance, so just dive in and do some research. When your child has a tantrum, pay particular attention to how you might handle yourself. You have to present a calm manner while presented with your kid’s frustration, even if you are boiling inside. Should you show outward signs of your frustration, then this will probably make the situation worse.

One of the popular methods or practices used to control a child’s temper tantrum is the time-out. Although nearly all professionals believe timeouts are a great way of diffusing the angry child, often those that really need the timeout is often the parents. If you react to the child’s outburst outburst in a quiet and controlled manner, the child will soon realise that you are in charge. Should you tackle the child’s anger with your anger, this will probably intensify the problem. Personally, I have in the past fallen into this trap and whilst I am getting much better at exercising this self control, I have occasional lapses, especially as my youngest seems to know which button to press to get the desired result.

The sight of the baby starts centering on all of the objects that are close to his/her face, babies listen and react to different sounds and calls, and also attempt to feel objects simply by touching.

In the early months of the infant’s life, you should provide toys like rattles, and also other objects that enhance the visual and hearing capacities of the baby. Provide your infant child development toys that feature simple operation buttons and knobs.

Uniformity of message, approach as well as delivery are important components to any kind of productive child’s development system through their child development stages. There could be some risk that if your youngster has had several carers, then it might be inevitable that their child progress may be effected or even become inconsistent. Through various carers they might encounter different types of care.

Somtimes the youngster might show various personalities in a short time period, sometimes wilful, sometimes placid sometimes they are the most delightful thing we’ve possibly experienced. This is not something which we ought to automatically be concerned about, but having some form of guideline may be beneficial. from this we could then be able to gauge where the child may reasonably expected to be against their achieved stage.

We should also account for the fact that some youngsters grow at different rates and also the fact that many external, possibly significant, event may have also influenced that child’s development. This is something which we have encountered first hand when our own young youngster suffered a severe injury to his arm. A distressing event for both him as well as us as his parents. Learning to cope with such trauma and the consequences is something that we are going to cover later.

We have prepared this early years Child Development Stages guide which may be of some use.

One of the main tools that I always had in my armoury when bringing up my youngster is that of toys. Not just any old stuff, which he may have ended up with if I hadn’t done a little digging about on the Internet. If you have a look around on the Internet on the topic of Child Development, one of the key aspects written about is on Child Development Play and the important role it plays. In support of this important topic, there a number of good quality Child Development Toys.

Depending on the child’s age, you may choose a different Child Development Toy. To help my discovery on what makes a good Child Development Toy, I did some research on something called The Lamaze Infant Development System. Basically this system gave me an idea on what toy would be most suitable for my son’s age group. To give you an idea, and credit to Lamaze Toys for this, Child Development Toys can be grouped into a category based on age group. Depending on the age group, the toy is aimed at one of three Child Development Stages. These are

Birth to 24 months – Awakening the senses

6 to 24 months – Exploring and Experimenting

9 to 24 months – Moving and Doing

As mentioned previously, one of the first toys I first purchased was a multi-coloured and multi-textured Octopus. The Octopus had bells sewn inside it. So as he got older, when it wasn’t being chewed, it was being shaken to bits. Definitely a toy that he spent a lot of time with and one that outlasted quite a few that were bought much later, a particular goal of the Lamaze toys. This toy was definitely placed correctly in the ‘Awakening the senses’ category. Here is a picture of the actual toy in question, great quality and definitely worth it’s weight in gold in keeping my youngster occupied.

As he grew we introduced him to other toys, both Lamaze and others, and I will write about some of the better ones. Hopefully this short article will have given you some ideas to start off your collection of useful Child Development Toys, in your quest for Child Development Made Simple. Choosing the right toy can not only provide your child with all the stimulation he or she needs, but also provide hours of enjoyment.

From personal experience this is a fantastic time, ignoring the sleepless nights of course. Child development play brings together ideas and creativity, relationships, physical co-ordination, feelings and helps your child to use what he knows and understand about the world and the people around him. This also forms the basis for developing the parent-child bond, which in itself is one of the most rewarding experiences for a parent.

When my youngest was born I had such fantastic plans for what I was going to do with him and get for him. It wasn’t long before I started planning what great toys I could buy for us, I mean him (oops). The biggest problem from my point of view was how long it would take for him to grow in order to be able to get any use from them, I had some fantastic ‘boys toys’ lined up. Then it occurred to me, I needed stuff to keep him occupied, not me. After all, I was more than occupied looking after him!

While I was spending many an hour trawling the Internet for ideas I realised there was some really good stuff out there to help achieve my goals, if you had the patience to look. I recall the first item I bought him was a cloth multi-coloured octopus. Not sure I ever saw any of that species on the Discovery Channel though.

Anyway, this octopus had different types or textures of material on each of its legs, presumably to promote some form of tactile development. That octopus and my son soon become inseparable, mainly one of its legs from his mouth. As he got older we progressed on to the obligatory ‘teddy’, although in his case it was a Dalmatian dog. He still has it to this day, some 11 years later, although he will deny all knowledge if ever challenged about it

Over a period of time we collected numerous child development toys, each serving a dual purpose, firstly to provide fun for him and then secondly to promote one of the aspects of his development. Not all this early stage revolved around toys. We devised numerous little ‘games’ to work with him, for example to promote his motor development through copying of movement or similar imitation games. It was about the time when he started to become more mobile and got his exploration bug, that he had his first climbing frame bought for him. Every now and then we would find him curled up asleep under it, with all manner of toys stuffed in there. Already building his own little fortress!

This was a great little addition to his toys, fun for him whilst giving me an opportunity to be involved playing in his little fort. Before long he was trying to build his own little fort with his start lego set. This provided plenty of opportunity for him to express himself and practice his throwing arm!

We soon progressed on to the messy phase, purchasing him a big box of crayons and water based paints and lots of paper. This allowed him to develop his creative side, although this often descended back into practicing his throwing. A little tip there, always make sure that painting is done in an easily cleaned room.

We have always encouraged him to socialise and mix with other children. From a very early age he was taken to various mother and baby, toddler and pre-school groups. This has proved to be one of the most important lessons learned as he has now progressed to being an emotionally secure individual who gets on well in groups of his peers.

So, that was his first few years and as I said earlier, a fantastic time and lots of opportunities for you to help your child develop through play. This is also a very important time for both parent and child where a close bond can form and to this day this bond remains strong, although now being a near teen it is often tested.

I hope that this article has provided you with some ideas for your child development play and hopefully provided some light relief.
